Cherri S. Wheeler is a seasoned ministry leader, educator, and retired United States Air Force Chaplain who devoted more than three decades to serving service members and their families across the globe. Her 31-year military career shaped a deep pastoral sensitivity to crisis, transition, moral injury, and spiritual resilience. These are the insights that continue to inform her writing and teaching today.
Following her retirement from active duty, Cherri has remained fully engaged in ministry. She serves as a volunteer chaplain with several local agencies and regularly provides pulpit supply for churches throughout North Carolina. In addition, she serves as the State Team Leader for Logistics with North Carolina Baptist on Mission, Disaster Response, helping coordinate faith-based relief efforts during times of natural disaster. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to walking alongside people during moments of upheaval, loss, and rebuilding.
Cherri also brings significant academic experience to her ministry. She has served as an Adjunct Instructor at Denver Seminary, teaching doctoral-level students in the Leadership Track, and has acted as First Reader for doctoral candidates. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Denver Seminary. This combination of pastoral practice and theological scholarship shapes her ability to communicate Scripture with clarity, compassion, and practical application.
Since retiring from military service in 2015, Cherri and her husband, Wade, have made their home in Southern Shores, North Carolina. When not responding to disasters or serving in ministry, they enjoy spending time on the golf course. Through her writing and teaching, Cherri continues her lifelong calling to help people discover God’s transforming grace and the redemptive purpose woven into every season of life.
